「比較」を分かりやすく解説【高校英語】

はじめに：「より～」「いちばん～」をどう英語で言う？
英語で「〜より速い」「〜と同じくらい上手」など、物事を比べるときに使うのが「比較表現」です。
この単元は、原級・比較級・最上級の3種類に分かれていて、それぞれで形が違います。
この記事では、比較のルールやよくある間違いも含めて、スッキリ整理して解説します！
比較の種類と使い分け

同じ程度を比較するとき
as＋形容詞＋as の形
例：This bag is as big as that one.
- 2つを比べて、どちらが上か下かを示す
- 形容詞＋er＋than／more＋形容詞＋than
例：He is taller than me.
more を使う単語
・音節が3つ以上の長い形容詞
⇨important / expensive / comfortableなど
・-lyで終わる副詞（＝ゆっくり、静かに、など）
⇨quickly / carefully
・一部の2音節形容詞（長めの2音節）
modern / famous
3つ以上の中で「一番～」を示す
the＋形容詞＋est／the most＋形容詞
例：She is the best dancer in the group.
比較級の不規則変化

more / mostは、「長い単語を比較級・最上級にするmore / most」と、
「many / muchが変化したmore / most」の2種類があります。

ラテン比較級
be superior to「〜より優れた」
be senior to「〜より年上」
prefer A to B「BよりAが好き」
prior to「〜より前に」
be inferior to「〜より劣った」
be junior to「〜より年下」
be preferable to「〜より好ましい」
①than ではなく、toを使う
②単語に比較級の意味が含まれているので、moreは不要
例）more superior ⇨ ×
the がつく比較級
① the 比較級 of the two「2つのうちで〜な方」
② all the 比較級 for (because~)「〜なので、その分だけ比較級だ」
③ The 比較級 sv, the 比較級 sv「svすればするほど、svだ」
no 比較級 than…を使った熟語
no more than…「…しか」= only
no less than…「…も多くの」=as many as… / as much as …

not more than…「多くても」=at most
not less than…「少なくても」=as least
最上級の書き換え
He is the tallest boy in his class.
=He is taller than any other boy in his class.
=No other boy in his class is taller than he.
=No other boy in his class is as tall as he.
Time is the most precious thing of all.
=Nothing is more precious than time.
=Nothing is as precious as time.
よくある間違いと覚え方の工夫
比較級でthanを忘れる
- × He is taller me.
- ✔ He is taller than me.
moreと-erの混同
× more taller →重ねない！
✔ taller または more tall のどちらか一方のみ使用
覚え方のコツ
- 原級：as〜as で同じレベル
- 比較級：〜er than（2つの比較）
- 最上級：the 最上級（3つ以上）

次の文の誤りを直しなさい：

解答：more taller → taller（重ね表現NG）

解答：He is as tall as his brother.（原級比較）
比較まとめ
「比較」は、原級・比較級・最上級の3つに分かれます。
意味のちがいと形の変化に注目すれば、表現の幅がぐっと広がります。
